Our Courses
Three Courses, One Coherent Body of Knowledge
Each course is a self-contained study. Together, they form a complete picture of fixed income from a Singapore resident's perspective โ from the simplest bond explanation to retirement-stage portfolio thinking.
โ Back to HomeOur Methodology
How These Courses Are Structured
Each course follows a three-part rhythm: an introductory section that establishes the vocabulary and the basic mechanics, a central body that works through the topic in enough detail to be genuinely useful, and a closing section that places the material in the context of a Singapore household at a particular life stage. Weekly readings are short enough to fit into a busy schedule, and each one is followed by a brief reflection prompt to help the material settle before the next arrives.
Nothing in these courses is promotional. Where an instrument or approach is described, the description is as neutral as it can be made. The goal is to give learners the understanding they need to have more productive conversations with licensed financial advisers, not to substitute for those conversations.
Worksheets, checklists, and reference tables are included with each course and are designed to be kept and used after the readings are finished. They are formatted for print as well as screen, since some learners find it easier to work through planning tools on paper.
Course One ยท Introductory
The Steady Side of the Map: Understanding Fixed Income
A gentle introductory course for adults who have heard of bonds and savings certificates for years and would like, at last, to understand them plainly. It starts with what a bond is in its simplest form โ a loan with a schedule โ then works carefully through coupons, maturity, yield, duration, and credit quality. Singapore Savings Bonds, SGS, T-Bills, MAS Bills, and retail corporate bonds are covered descriptively throughout.
What you will study
- How a bond works: principal, coupon, and maturity explained plainly
- Singapore Savings Bonds and their step-up structure
- Singapore Government Securities and Treasury Bills
- MAS Bills and what makes them different from T-Bills
- Yield, duration, and credit quality โ described without oversimplification
How it is delivered
Five weeks of weekly reading materials
Bond math worksheet included
Glossary of fixed-income terms for ongoing reference
Links to MAS and MoneySense materials at relevant points
Course Two ยท Intermediate
Reading Bond Information with Quiet Attention
A considered study for learners who wish to understand the written materials that accompany a fixed-income holding: the term sheet, the prospectus, the rating agency summary, and the factsheet for a bond fund or ETF. The course is descriptive throughout and repeatedly emphasises that MAS-regulated markets require licensed advisers for personal decisions.
Topics covered
- Reading term sheets and prospectuses without being overwhelmed
- Understanding credit ratings without over-trusting them
- Call provisions and sinking-fund clauses in corporate bonds
- Yield-to-maturity vs current yield โ and why both matter
- Accumulating vs distributing bond funds and ETFs
- How interest-rate changes typically affect bond prices
What is included
Eight weeks of weekly readings with worksheets
Term-sheet reading checklist
Credit-rating reference table for Singapore-relevant issuers
Reflection prompt after each reading
Course Three ยท Reflective
Placing Fixed Income Thoughtfully in Later Years
A reflective course for readers approaching retirement or already in it, thinking about how steadier holdings sit within a household that is no longer adding income. The course does not recommend any security; it builds a steady mental model for thinking about fixed income during the drawdown phase.
Topics explored
- Laddering short-dated government instruments in Singapore
- Reinvestment considerations when yields change over time
- Coordinating SGS and SSB holdings with CPF LIFE income
- How a rising rate environment affects a spending household differently
- Reviewing fixed-income choices with a spouse or adult children
What is included
Ten weeks of modest weekly readings
Household income-source mapping worksheet
Ladder planning worksheet
Conversation guide for reviewing with an adviser or family
